National Infertility Awareness Week®: Here’s How to Help

/ Posted in: Fertility /

Once a year in April, a week is dedicated to the national movement of raising awareness around infertility in the United States. Infertility is actually quite common. In fact, 13% of couples in the United States have trouble conceiving. Additionally, infertility can affect both women and men equally. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one-third of infertility is related to women’s health issues, another third to men’s health issues, and the other third due to a mix of women’s and men’s health issues.

National Infertility Awareness Week® is intended to raise the voices of those experiencing infertility while also advocating for greater support around those struggling to build a family.

The History of National Infertility Awareness Week®

National Infertility Awareness Week was founded in 1989 by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association. National Infertility Awareness Week is the largest awareness campaign focused on the subject of infertility. Every year a theme is defined to bring awareness to the different ways people struggle with infertility.

This year, National Infertility Awareness Week® will be observed April 21 – 27. The week will be dedicated to discourses around the lack of access to infertility options and emotional support. In particular, it will look at the issues of infertility options for those without access to insurance coverage, or without the financial support to afford infertility treatment or alternatives to conceiving like adoption.

How Can You Help Raise Awareness?

Be a part of the solution and help raise awareness for those struggling with infertility. Here are several actions you can take during National Infertility Awareness Week.

Use Social Media to Raise Awareness

Using social media is a great way to spread the word quickly and, in this case, is a great way to help make the subject of infertility a trending topic online. This year, National Infertility Awareness Week® is encouraging the use of #InfertilityUncovered across social media platforms.

Here’s how to get involved:

Share Your Story

One way to make a powerful impact during National Infertility Awareness Week is by sharing your own story of infertility. Whether you share your story through a social media post, a YouTube® video, or through conversation with someone going through similar struggles, talking about infertility is raising awareness. Share your story or read other stories of encouragement.

Host or Attend an Awareness Event

Looking to have greater involvement? Get involved by attending a national event or hosting a local one for National Infertility Awareness Week event.

The Kaldas Center is also taking steps in raising awareness of infertility through its partnership with the ART of Infertility. With battling infertility for years, Dr. Kaldas made our dream come true! We had tried to get pregnant naturally for about 2 years. We then decided to seek medical help. After multiple unsuccessful medicated cycles and multiple failed intrauterine inseminations (IUI) and multiple doctors we were finally referred to Dr. Rami Kaldas. After meeting Dr. Kaldas for the first time, we had regained our hope in achieving our dream of having a baby. We were distraught and lost after dealing with infertility for the past 3 years, but Dr. Kaldas gave us that newfound hope. He gave us reassurance and helped reduce our stress and anxiety. After only 2 months of being treated by Dr. Kaldas, we were pregnant! He is a true professional in his field! We are very thankful to have met Dr. Kaldas. During our pregnancy he was still by our sides ensuring the successful delivery of our little one. He is very dedicated, knowledgeable and committed to each of his patients. The night I went into labor he had worked an entire day, stayed the entire night and worked the following day as he had multiple other deliveries and appointments to keep. He is very driven and dedicated to his patients and it shows. No amount of thanks will ever be enough. I highly recommend Dr. Kaldas to anyone dealing with infertility or pregnancy!
